How do I determine if I am Regulated under the DOT?
The Department of Transportation (DOT) regulates companies that use vehicles in the course of doing business. A Company falls under DOT guidelines if it uses a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles in commerce to transport passengers or property and the motor vehicle
- Is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver; or
- Is a Vehicle grossing 10,001 lbs, or greater or is rated for more than 10,001 lbs by the manufacturer; or
- Is of any size and is used in the transportation of hazardous materials requiring placards
After the gross weight of 26,001 lbs is reached the DOT also requires all drivers to be part of a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, also known as a Consortium. All owner operators of Vehicles weighing more than 26,001 lbs are required to be in a consortium. Companies that employee Drivers may choose to be either in the Consortium or in an individual pool. All Drivers also must have a Negative Pre-employment drug screen in their employee folder and have a current health card. Program enrollment must be kept current
*There are many regulations that do not involve Drug Testing or Physicals if your company falls under DOT guidelines, please check with the DOT website for full requirements
Why should I choose Hair Testing?
Hair Testing is the best way to determine Past Use of a drug. Hair receives drugs used by the individual through the blood stream, the drugs are then entrapped in the core of the shaft of the hair giving you the amount that has been used by the individual. Because the outside of the hair is not tested. The drugs cannot be washed away, flushed out of the system, or if bleach or shampoos are used they cannot get to the shaft of the hair. The result of the hair analysis gives us a good picture of the drug use of this person over a given period of 30, 60, or 90 days. (30 days of use for every ½ inch of hair). It generally takes between 7 to 14 days for drugs to show up in the hair. If you are wanting to verify whether an individual used drugs on a specific date, this should be kept in mind. Hair testing is best for habitually usage detection.
Why should I choose Saliva Testing?
Saliva testing is the best method to use if you are concerned about adulteration of a urine sample. It is a simple and less invasive technique which prevents tampering and ensures an unadulterated test. Saliva will show what is currently in a persons system. It is very similar to Urinalysis aside from the collection.
Why should I choose Urine Testing?
Urine is the most common form of drug testing. Urine will show what drugs are in the system at the time of the collection. The process has some detractors because of the industry that has evolved around beating a Drug Test. There are many methods that are used by individuals trying to “beat” a test. Drumm Health Services Utilizes Collection Procedures that greatly reduce the possibility of substituting, tampering and adulteration of specimens.
